Scholarship: Dr W James Truitt Scholarship

Information: The W. James Truitt Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1985 by friends, family and former students to honor Dr. W. James Truitt. Dr. Truitt earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and math from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He earned his master’s degree in economics from Purdue University, where he also met his wife, Cecile. Jim and Cecile were married on August 25, 1962 and moved to Champaign, Illinois to pursue their Ph.D. programs. After Jim obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1969, he became chair of the economics and finance at Baylor University. He retired in 2000 but continued as a part-time faculty member at Baylor until 2004. Dr. Truitt went to be with his heavenly Father on June 7, 2011 after a bout with pancreatic cancer. Jim and Cecile have two daughters: Dr. Susan Truitt and Catherine Truitt Newman.

Criteria:  For Undergraduate Economics majors in the School of Business.

Minimum GPA: The University requires a minimum GPA of 2.50; however, individual departments may have more stringent academic requirements.

Need/Merit: Based on need and/or merit.
