Scholarship: Tommy Joe West Scholarship

Information: The Tommy Joe West Endowed Scholarship Fund in Journalism was established in 1988 by family and friends in memory of Tommy West.

Tommy West graduated from Baylor University in 1965 with a BA in journalism. While enrolled at Baylor, he became the first person to serve two consecutive terms as editor of the Baylor Lariat and worked in various capacities at the Waco News Tribune.

Tommy worked with various newspapers throughout his career including the Houston Post, Cincinnati Enquirer, and Philadelphia Enquirer. He also served as an editor for the San Antonio Express-News and later wrote a local color column for the Sunday magazine. At the time of his death in 1988, he was a report/editor with the Lewisville Leader in Texas.

Criteria:  For Undergraduate Journalism majors.

Minimum GPA: The University requires a minimum GPA of 2.50; however, individual departments may have more stringent academic requirements.

Need/Merit: Based on need and merit.
