Scholarship: William & Argye Hillis Schp

Information: The William D. and Argye Hillis Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1988 by William D. and Argye Hillis of Waco, Texas.

Dr. William Hillis received a B.S. degree from Baylor University in 1953 after entering as a 16-year-old freshman. He later received an M.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1957. In 1981, Dr. Hillis accepted an offer from Baylor University president Herbert Reynolds to return to his alma mater as chair of the biology department. In 1985 he was named executive vice president of Baylor University and remained in administration until 1988 when he returned to full-time teaching.

Dr. Hills was honored with Baylor's Outstanding Professor Award in 1985 and in 1994 was named the Outstanding University Administrator Award. He also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Baylor Alumni Association in 1998 and was a recipient of the Herbert Reynolds Service Award in 2003.

William and Argye Hillis are members of the Baylor Bear Foundation, Old Main Society and are life members of the Baylor Alumni Association.

Criteria:  For , Pre-Medical, or Pre-Dental students who are a junior or senior.

Minimum GPA: The University requires a minimum GPA of 2.50; however, individual departments may have more stringent academic requirements.

Need/Merit: Based on need and merit.
