Information: The Ruth Cannon Pritchard Endowed Scholarship Fund in Education was established in 2009 by Cannon H. Pritchard of Livingston, Texas in memory of his mother, Ruth Cannon Pritchard.

Ruth Pritchard was born on January 23, 1910 to Livingston merchant, Stephen Jason Cannon and his wife, Pattie Willis Cannon. She lived to be 96 years old, passing away on May 3, 2006. Ruth was a fifth generation resident of Livingston, Texas, where her predecessor arrived in March 1858. She graduated from the College of Industrial Arts (now Texas Women's University) in 1929 with a BS degree in English and Spanish. She later received a MA degree from Sam Houston State University.

From her earliest memories, Ruth wanted to be a teacher. In her 42-year teaching career, she taught over 7,000 students in the Livingston Independent School District. She was quoted as saying "I have always felt that no human contact can give greater satisfaction than teaching school."
