Scholarship: Shepherd Spencer N Brown Schp

Information: The Shepherd Spencer Neville Brown Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by the Spencer Brown family of Waco, Texas in loving memory of the family patriarch.

Mr. Brown entered eternal life on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009. He was 88 years old. He was survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Cannon Boyce Brown, four children, ten grandchildren, and 14 nieces and nephews. Mr. Brown, best known as the former chairman, president and CEO of Extraco Corporation, led the family business for 63 years. He transformed the company from a cotton compress and warehousing company into the largest and most sophisticated independent financial institution in central Texas.

Mr. Brown was a man of great vision and sterling character. At Baylor, he was involved in the early formative discussions with the Hankamer School of Business regarding the creation of what is now the highly successful entrepreneurship program. In addition, he served on over two dozen local community boards, about half of which he acted as chairman or president.

Spencer Brown's most important and cherished blessing was that of his faith, church and family. Mr. Brown served as senior ward of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and was deeply involved in numerous roles both locally and at the diocesan level. He loved his family very much.

This endowed scholarship program assists students who are enrolled in the Hankamer School of Business and pursuing an undergraduate course of study in entrepreneurship.
