Scholarship: Hayword - Lonborg Schp

Information: The Dr. Dwight Ray Haywood and Mr. John Kaye Lonborg Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund in Nursing was established in 2013 by Stephen Dwight and Kari Lonborg Haywood of Dallas, Texas, in loving memory with honor and respect for their dads.

Dr. Dwight Ray Haywood, a dedicated orthopedic surgeon, loved the Lord, his family, and providing compassionate care to his patients. He was passionate about his medical profession and was thankful for the help and care that the nurses he served with provided. Ray loved Baylor University and the lifelong friendships he developed as a student in the Class of 1954. He also enjoyed the outdoors, playing tennis, hiking, canoeing as well as all aspects of his farm. The verse that inspired him most was Proverbs 23:7, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he."

Mr. John (Jay) Kaye Lonborg, a successful business man, loved the Lord, his family and providing insurance and financial services to his clients. He dealt with a 14 year battle of bone cancer and was very thankful for the wonderful care that nurses provided for him. Jay always had a positive attitude, especially throughout his illness. The verse he lived by everyday was Psalm 118: 24, "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Stephen Dwight Haywood earned a B.B.A. degree from Baylor University in 1983 and an M.B.A. degree from Southern Methodist University in 1990. Stephen currently manages investments through Dogwood Energy, LLC, a company he founded in 2006 after 21 years of extensive experience in the natural gas industry. Kari Lonborg Haywood earned a B.S.H.E. degree from Baylor University in 1983 and an M.Ed. degree from Texas Woman’s University in 1988.
