Scholarship: Karen & Jonathan Hook Schp

Information: The Karen A and Jonathan D. Hook Family Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2014 by Karen and Jonathan Hook of Reisterstown, Maryland in gratitude for what the University has meant to the Hook family.

Jonathan attended Baylor in 1979-1981, graduating with his Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in finance. Many individuals connected with the University were instrumental in his coming to Baylor and being able to complete his degree on schedule and within his financial means. The establishment of this scholarship is one way that the family can give back to Baylor and help along other students who are trying to make their way.

Following graduation with his MBA, Jonathan began his career in Houston as a banker and spent twenty years in the profession with several major financial institutions. It was in Houston that he met Karen, a Penn State graduate (1980), and they married. In 2001, Jonathan was asked to come back to Baylor and become its first chief investment officer (CIO). He joined the University's administration and served for seven and a half years, having started the University's investment office and managing its endowment. Following Baylor, Jonathan served as the CIO at Ohio State University and now serves as CIO at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation.

Karen and Jonathan have two children, Kendall (BU Class of 2012) and Connor (BU Class of 2016). Kendall was a marketing and media business double major in the Hankamer School of Business. Connor, who is nearing graduation, is a sociology major with a minor in educational psychology. Even though the family has lived in several areas of the country, they are strong supporters of Baylor and feel very fortunate to be able to give back to the University that has meant so much to the family.
