Scholarship: Wayne &Barbara Swearingen Schp

Information: The Wayne and Barbara Swearingen Endowed Scholarship Fund in Business was established in 2018 by Barbara and Wayne Swearingen of Dallas, Texas.

Wayne Swearingen earned his B.A. degree in Geology and minored in Mathematics from Baylor University in 1955. During his time at Baylor, Wayne was a Yell Leader, a member of the Baylor Religious Hour Choir, and a member of the Air Force ROTC, where he served as colonel of the corps his senior year.

After graduation, Wayne entered active duty in the US Air Force where he became a jet bomber pilot and achieved the rank of Captain. He served in the Air Force Reserves until 1964.

In 1962, Wayne entered the commercial real estate business in Dallas, working for Carr P. Collins, Sr. at Fidelity Union Life Insurance Company and later at Henry S. Miller Company, helping expand that company throughout Texas and Oklahoma. In 1972, he formed the Swearingen Company and in 1974, Swearingen Management Company that was later sold to Koll Management Services. In the 1980s, Wayne served as Chairman of the Advisory Board of Hankamer School of Business and taught an advanced Real Estate Management Course at Baylor.

In 1990, Wayne founded Barclay Commercial Group in which he is active today. His high-rise transactions have "changed the skylines" in Dallas and Fort Worth. In 1999, he was inducted into the Dallas/Fort Worth Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame.
Wayne and Barbara have two daughters and Barbara is an adopted Baylor Bear.

Criteria:  For Undergraduate students in the School of Business.

Minimum GPA: The University requires a minimum GPA of 2.50; however, individual departments may have more stringent academic requirements.

Need/Merit: Based on need and merit.
